Lack of Monitoring
Standalone readers do not have the feature of data log history on users’ access to the premises. Authorised personnel will also not be able to see if the controlled door has been forced open or if an unauthorized person has gained access. Due to the lack of monitoring and response capabilities, standalone readers are not recommended for high-security applications. (e.g. cash room)
 
Unable to make universal updates
Standalone readers will not be able to control user rights and other information universally across all readers. Should an employee leave the company, be terminated, or simply need their access rights to be updated, manual updates are required for every individual reader. This task can be rather time consuming if you have multiple doors installed at your site. In some cases, employers may see the task too cumbersome and leave former employees’ user rights un-deleted. This poses as a huge security breach and allow potential unauthorized access.
