In today’s context, security and surveillance can be considered indispensable. CCTV systems provide the convenience and ease of monitoring the security of your property when you’re not physically around. Despite the advantages, it is not unusual that your CCTV systems may experience minor faults at times and it would be useful for you to be equipped with simple troubleshooting skills so you may diagnose the issue before engaging the professionals.

Our team has come up with a 3-step checklist to help you diagnose the fault of your system. Most CCTV Systems consist of three main components, 1) Camera, 2) Recorder, 3) Software. This article will equip you with the basic skills to diagnose the health of your system.

Camera
If you have noticed that there is video loss in the CCTV footages, you can first check on the power source to the camera. Ensure that the power supply to the camera is turned on and the power cables are securely connected. Many times, video losses are due to a loose power cable or the power supply being accidentally turned off. If the power to the camera is on and it is still showing video loss, then there might be a possibility that the camera is faulty.

Recorder
The recorder, also commonly known as the DVR or NVR is the device where all the CCTV recordings are stored. First, ensure that the power to the recorder is on and also, that the video cables are securely connected at the back of the recorder. You can also connect a monitor directly via a HDMI or VGA to the device to check if there is any system error message. Audio alerts for errors such as hard disk drive failure will also be configured to alert customer. With the above simple steps, you will be able to determine the fault in the recorder.

Software
Software is the user interface where you use to control and view your CCTV footages. Do ensure that the software installed is up to date. If you are unable to connect to your device and it shows the ‘connection failed’ error, do check that your mobile device is connected to the Internet, and also ensure that the recorder is properly connected to your router. If the error still persists, there might be a possibility that the router has to be reconfigured. A reconfiguration of router is required when there is reset or firmware update done to the router or if you have replaced the existing router with a new unit.

Above is a simple 3-step checklist on how to diagnose the faulty on your CCTV System. If you are still unable to troubleshoot and diagnose the error on your systems, you can engage our professional service. Our experienced team of technician will be able to assist you on the issue.
