What are Biometric Door Systems and how do they work?

Security has always been a key concern to many homeowners and businessmen, whether it’s ensuring safety of the precious valuables or properties with physical locks or protecting data with multiple layers of encryption.
However, many have highlighted the flaws in those systems. For example, physical locks can be tampered or broken into with force, while digital lock, such as those using RFID, can be jammed or corrupted.
With the rapid advancement in technologies, security companies have developed a wide array of both software and hardware systems that protect your valuables. Biometric door system is one of the latest and most advanced in this line, combining the best of both physical and digital locks to ensure maximum security for your property.

What is Biometric Access Control System?

Biometric access control system is a sophisticated security system that uses biometrics instead of keys, RFID Card, or access codes to secure the premises. Apart from only using biometrics for authentication, the system can be programed to multiple levels of authentication before unlocking.
This method of access system is also more convenient to the user as one would never have to worry about forgetting your key, keycard or access codes again as this form of authentication is always with you be it fingerprint or facial recognition.

How does Biometric Door Systems Work?

Biometric door systems works by identifying individual biological recognition patterns such as fingerprint or facial recognition. These recognition patterns are encoded into a set of data points and compared against the registered database. If a match is found, the system recognizes the person and allows entry by unlocking the locks.
  • Fingerprints – Fingerprint readers encode the detected pattern into the set of data points into the console or device that is installed next to the door. From there, the entered data is compared against the database of registered patterns. If the encoded pattern has a match in the database, a signal will be sent to the locking mechanism to open the door.
  • Facial Patterns – Self-contained units attached to the network detect the pattern of your face instead of simply your fingerprints, and these facial readers can be easily installed.

Thanks for pointing out that there is a rapid advancement of technology these days which can be used for security. With that in mind, we should consider getting a card access control system for our home. It's for the vacation house since we are usually away, and we only visit it during the summer.

I like that you talked about fingerprint readers that would detect the pattern to work on the door where it is connected to. That seems to be a very secure option, since our fingerprints are unique. A security access door like that would probably be best for the financial sectors or parts of a house where safes are located for additional security.

Wow, it's so cool that you explained access control systems and how they're evolving. The other day, my cousin said he's interested in starting a business. My cousin wants to open a watch shop, so I think he'd benefit from reading your security tips. Thank you for the advice on how we could use biometric door systems to keep our business safe.
