​In this article, we share a sample illustration of how an intrusion alarm system can be designed to protect your premises. This may provide you with a good rough idea of how you can utilize the alarm system to effectively secure your property.

Main Entrance (All Points of Entry)

​The key area of focus would essentially be to secure all points of entry to the premises. As seen on the above layout, door contacts are placed at all points of entry. This acts as the first tier of protection as it covers the perimeter of the premise.
 
Other than door contacts, motion sensors are also located at the points of entry to further enhance the level of security. Motion sensors serve as a back-up in the event that door contacts along the perimeter have been breached.

Cash Room (High Security Area)

​Apart from securing the points of entry, we also recommend having security equipment installed in sensitive areas of the premise. E.g. cash room. 

From the image above, you can find placement of door contact and motion sensor in the cash room. In such high security area, additional panic button(s) could also be installed in the area to allow victims to send a duress signal in times of need.
 
Duress signal is always set to be a silent alarm, which means the high decibel siren installed will not be triggered during the activation of a panic signal. Instead, it will send notifications to the key holders or directly connect with the local authorities. This protects victims from aggression by the intruder.
 
The alarm control panel is placed at the most secured area of the premise, which in this case is the cash room. As the controller is the main brain of the entire system, it should always be located in a secured area that is only accessible by authorized personnel.

Alarm Keypad and Siren Location

​Next, the alarm keypad is usually located near the first point of entry. This will allow users to disarm the system first thing when they enter the premise, and arm the system before leaving the premise. Lastly, the high decibel siren is located at the front entrance. Not only does it allow passers-by and security personnel to be alerted during an event of an alarm trigger, it also acts as a form of deterrence.
